There's an Asian lady beetle crawling across my living room ceiling right this second. I'm not surprised: it's early fall in Minnesota, and as the weather cools, Asian lady beetles start looking for warm places to hole up over the winter. I'm sure my 90-year-old stucco house offers ample entry points for bugs of all kinds, and since we're only renting it, we haven't bothered to pest-proof it in all the ways I recommend in this article. My husband thinks beetles are awesome. He actually has beetles tattooed on his arm. So imagine my shock and horror earlier this summer, when I pointed out a cool-looking beetle I'd never seen before, and he promptly stomped it into oblivion.
